A text page at 150 dpi is typically 100–300 KB; at 300 dpi about four times that.

Can I get a transparent logo out of a PDF?

Yes, tick “Transparent background”. If the logo sits on a coloured rectangle in the PDF, that rectangle is part of the page and stays.
