How small will my PDF get?

It depends on what is inside. Scans and photo-heavy files typically shrink 60–90 %; text-only PDFs are already small and may lose only a few percent.

Will the text become blurry?

No. Text and vector drawings are not touched. Only embedded images are downsampled, and at the recommended level they remain sharp for reading and printing.

Why does this tool use a server?

About Compress PDF

Most oversized PDFs are scans stored at 300–600 dpi or exports with uncompressed images. Downsampling those images to 150 dpi and re-encoding them as JPEG removes most of the bulk while text and vector graphics stay exactly as they were.

Compression also rebuilds the file structure: duplicate fonts and images are merged, deleted objects are dropped and streams are re-compressed. This step alone often cuts 10–20 %.
