Can I convert only certain pages?

Yes. Enter page numbers or ranges in the Pages field.

Why is the image blurry?

Increase the resolution to 300 dpi. At 72 dpi an A4 page is only 595 × 842 pixels.

Is there a page limit?

No fixed limit. Rendering a 500-page manual takes a while on a phone; download is offered as a ZIP when there are many pages.

Do I get the images embedded in the PDF, or the pages?

The pages, as they appear. To pull out the original embedded photos at full resolution, use Extract images from PDF (coming soon) or a desktop tool.

Why convert PDF to JPG

Social networks, chat apps and many CMSs do not preview PDFs, but everything shows a JPG. Rendering the pages to images is the quickest way to share a flyer or a page of a report.

Pages are rendered with the same engine Firefox uses for PDFs, so fonts, vector graphics and transparency come out as intended. 150 dpi is sharp on screens; use 300 dpi if the image will be printed.

About the formats

PDF · Portable Document Format · .pdf

The fixed-layout document standard: looks the same on every device and printer, which is why forms, invoices, contracts and reports are shared as PDF.

A PDF can contain vector text, embedded fonts, images, form fields, annotations and digital signatures.
Scanned PDFs are just pictures of pages; they need OCR before the text can be searched or copied.
PDF is an open ISO standard (ISO 32000) since 2008.

JPG · JPEG image · .jpg

The universal photo format: small files, supported by every device, camera and website, but no transparency and slight quality loss on each save.

JPEG compression discards fine detail the eye rarely notices; quality 80–90 is usually indistinguishable from the original at a fraction of the size.
Re-saving a JPG repeatedly adds generation loss, so keep an original and export copies.
JPG has no alpha channel — transparent areas become white or black when converted from PNG.
