2. What data we collect

Calculations mostly happen in your browser; the numbers you enter do not go to our server. There are two exceptions, both server-side features: the name generator's AI search (relayed to Groq) and the feedback form (relayed to Formspree), described below under Third parties.

We use Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Analytics for visitor measurement. These collect pseudonymous usage data such as page views, browser and device type, approximate location (country/city) and the referring website. Google Analytics may use cookies and your IP address for statistics; Google Analytics 4 does not store the full IP address by default, and we do not link data to an individual. Vercel Analytics is cookieless and privacy-friendly.

Analytics and advertising cookies are only set with your consent. The site has a cookie banner, and by default (Google Consent Mode v2) all non-essential measurement and advertising is blocked until you accept cookies.

3. Cookies

The site uses cookies and similar technologies as follows:

• Essential — e.g. your selected language and your cookie consent (stored in the browser's localStorage). These do not require consent.
• Analytics — Google Analytics 4 cookies for visitor measurement. Set only with your consent.
• Advertising — when display advertising (Google AdSense) is enabled, it may set advertising cookies. Set only with your consent.

You can withdraw or change your consent by clearing your browser's cookies and localStorage, after which the cookie banner will ask for your choice again. Advertising and analytics cookies follow Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy. You can also block Google Analytics with a browser add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

4. Budget Calculator AI feature

The Budget Calculator has an optional AI receipt-recognition feature. If you use it, you provide your own API key (OpenAI or Anthropic). Images are sent directly from your browser to the AI provider you choose. CalcBrew never sees the images, your API key, or the receipt amounts. The API key is kept only in browser memory (no cookies, no localStorage) and is discarded when the page closes.

5. Data retention and deletion

Name search queries may be cached server-side for up to one hour without any personal identifier. Feedback form messages remain in Formspree until they have been handled. Browser local storage (localStorage), which some calculators use to remember your settings, can be cleared via your browser's data settings. Deletion requests can be sent to info@nopealaskuri.fi.

6. Third parties

• Google Analytics 4 — visitor measurement (with consent)
• Google AdSense — display advertising, when enabled (with consent)
• Vercel — site hosting as well as cookieless Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights. Server logs may contain IP addresses for technical and security reasons.
• Google and Bing — search engine indexing (sitemap, IndexNow). They do not collect personal data through our site.
• Groq Inc. — the name generator's optional AI search. The search text and your IP address (for abuse prevention) are processed server-side (Vercel Edge), and the search text is sent to Groq's AI to interpret the search criteria. This is not linked to your identity.
• Formspree — delivery of the contact form. Your message and optional email address are relayed to us via Formspree.
• Hetzner Online GmbH (Finland) — hosting of the conversion server used by the server-side file converters (see section 7).
• Cloudflare — DNS for calcbrew.com and the Turnstile bot check on server-side conversions.

The legal basis for processing analytics and advertising cookies is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), and for server logs it is legitimate interest (security and operation of the service).

7. File converters

Most file converters and PDF tools run entirely in your browser: the file is opened on your device, converted there, and never transmitted to us. Each tool page states this under the upload box (“Runs in your browser”).

A few conversions need software that cannot run in a browser (Office documents to PDF, PDF/A, web pages to PDF, document format changes such as DOC to DOCX, and e-books). Those pages say “Processed on our EU server”. For them, your file is uploaded over HTTPS to our server in the European Union (api.calcbrew.com, hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH in Finland), converted automatically, and made available for download. Files are stored only for the conversion and are deleted automatically within one hour — earlier if you download the result, because the page requests deletion immediately. No person looks at the files, their contents are not logged, and they are not used for any other purpose. Technical logs contain the conversion type, file sizes, timestamps and your IP address (for rate limiting and abuse prevention) and are kept for at most 30 days. Anonymous use of server conversions may require a Cloudflare Turnstile check to block automated abuse; Turnstile does not use tracking cookies.

OCR (text recognition) downloads language data files from a content delivery network the first time it runs; only the language file is fetched, never your document.

8. Your rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to access, correct or delete data about you and to withdraw your consent. As we do not maintain a user database, most data is not stored permanently. You can, however, request deletion of anything you sent via the feedback form and withdraw your cookie consent at any time. We may update this privacy policy. The update date is shown at the top of the page. We will announce significant changes on the site.
