How to choose
- For compatibility
- MP3 at 192 kbps plays on everything and sounds fine for music; 128 kbps is enough for speech.
- For editing
- WAV is what editors and DAWs work in. Convert MP3 to WAV before cutting, and back to MP3 when sharing.
- For archiving
- FLAC is lossless at half the size of WAV. Keep FLAC or WAV masters and make MP3 copies.
