What about 16-bit and CMYK TIFFs?

16-bit images are converted to 8-bit; CMYK is converted to RGB. Colours may shift slightly for CMYK print files — use the original for print.

Are compressed TIFFs (LZW, ZIP, JPEG) supported?

Yes, the common compressions are decoded. Rare ones such as JBIG or old-style JPEG may fail.

Can I keep pages together?

Use Image to PDF; it accepts multi-page TIFFs and creates one PDF.

Why convert TIFF to JPG

TIFF is the format of scanners, fax servers and print workflows: lossless, huge and invisible on the web. JPG makes the same image shareable and previewable everywhere at a tenth of the size.

About the formats

TIFF · Tagged Image File Format · .tif

The archival and print standard: lossless, supports layers, multiple pages and 16-bit colour, but far too large for the web.

TIFF can be uncompressed or losslessly compressed (LZW, ZIP); either way files are large.
Scanners and fax software often produce multi-page TIFFs.
Browsers do not display TIFF, so it must be converted to JPG or PNG for the web.

JPG · JPEG image · .jpg

The universal photo format: small files, supported by every device, camera and website, but no transparency and slight quality loss on each save.

JPEG compression discards fine detail the eye rarely notices; quality 80–90 is usually indistinguishable from the original at a fraction of the size.
Re-saving a JPG repeatedly adds generation loss, so keep an original and export copies.
JPG has no alpha channel — transparent areas become white or black when converted from PNG.
