Will layer effects look right?

Almost always, because the stored composite already includes them. PSDs saved without “Maximize Compatibility” have no composite; those are rendered from layers and complex effects may differ slightly.

Can I extract individual layers?

Not with this tool. It exports the flattened image.

Why convert PSD to JPG

Clients and designers exchange PSDs, but previewing one needs Photoshop or a compatible editor. The composite image inside most PSDs — the flattened preview Photoshop stores — can be exported directly, and when it is missing the layers are rendered and merged.

Colour management is handled server-side: CMYK and Lab documents are converted to sRGB with the embedded profile, so the JPG matches what the designer saw.

About the formats

PSD · Adobe Photoshop document · .psd

Photoshop’s working format with layers, masks and adjustment layers; needs Photoshop or a compatible editor to open.

Most PSD files include a flattened composite image, which is what a PSD to JPG conversion exports.
Layer effects and smart objects may render slightly differently outside Photoshop.
PSB is the large-document variant for files over 2 GB.

The universal photo format: small files, supported by every device, camera and website, but no transparency and slight quality loss on each save.

JPEG compression discards fine detail the eye rarely notices; quality 80–90 is usually indistinguishable from the original at a fraction of the size.
Re-saving a JPG repeatedly adds generation loss, so keep an original and export copies.
JPG has no alpha channel — transparent areas become white or black when converted from PNG.
