How does the love calculator work?

It uses a letter-based formula: both names are normalized (lowercased, letters only), sorted so the order you type them in never matters, and run through a stable mathematical hash that weights each letter by its position. The result is mapped to a 0–100 percentage. It is completely deterministic — no randomness is involved.

No — and it is not meant to be. It is a game, the digital descendant of the paper-and-pencil "LOVES" game from school days. The percentage measures nothing except how two names interact with an arbitrary formula. Real compatibility comes from communication, respect and shared values, none of which are spelled in a name.

Do the same names always give the same result?

Yes, by design. The formula is deterministic, so Emma + Liam gives the same percentage today, tomorrow and on a friend’s phone. The order does not matter either — Liam + Emma gives the identical score, because the names are sorted before the calculation.

Can I share my result?

Accepted Answer

Yes. After you calculate, the two names are stored in the page URL, so copying the link (or using the share buttons below the calculator) sends the exact same result to whoever opens it. That is a fun way to break the news of a 94% match — or a 12% one.

Does the calculator store the names I enter?

Accepted Answer

No. Everything happens in your browser — the names are never sent to a server or saved anywhere. They only appear in the URL on your own device so that you can share the result if you choose to.
