Days Until Valentine's Day 💘

February 14, every year, any weekday

Valentine’s Day is fixed to February 14, traditionally linked to St. Valentine, a third-century Roman figure, and to a February feast that medieval poets — Chaucer among them — tied to birds choosing their mates. It is not a public holiday anywhere in the US: schools, banks and offices run normally, which is exactly why the weekday matters so much.

A weekend Valentine’s Day concentrates everything into one or two evenings and makes reservations scarce; a Tuesday one spreads celebrations across the nearest weekend. The weekday advances one day per year (two across a leap February), so the counter above tells you what you’re working with.

Reservations and roses reward the early

Valentine’s Day is among the busiest restaurant evenings of the year — in popular cities, tables at sought-after spots go two to four weeks ahead, earlier when February 14 falls on a Friday or Saturday. Flowers follow the same curve: roses often cost noticeably more in Valentine’s week, and delivery slots for February 14 itself sell out first, so ordering seven to ten days ahead (or choosing February 13 delivery) is the practical move. Shipped gifts should be ordered when this countdown drops below two weeks.
