Time Card Calculator

Fill in clock-in and clock-out times and the unpaid break for each day of the week. The calculator totals your hours in h:mm and decimal form, splits regular and overtime hours under the federal 40-hour rule or a daily 8-hour rule, and multiplies by your hourly rate for gross pay. Overnight shifts are handled automatically, and you can print or copy the summary for payroll.

How hours are calculated

daily hours = clock out − clock in − unpaid break
overtime (FLSA) = max(0, weekly total − 40 h)
gross pay = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × 1.5

Worked example: five days of 9:00 to 5:30 with a 30-minute lunch is 8.0 hours a day, 40.0 for the week — no overtime. Add a Saturday shift of 8:00 to 2:00 with no break (6.0 h) and the week is 46.0 hours: 40 regular, 6 overtime. At $20 an hour that is $800 + 6 × $30 = $980 gross.

Paid breaks (short rest breaks of 5–20 minutes are paid time under federal rules) should be entered as 0; only bona fide unpaid meal periods of 30 minutes or more are subtracted.

Overtime rules by state

The federal Fair Labor Standards Act sets overtime at 1.5× after 40 hours in a workweek and applies in every state. Four states add daily overtime: California (1.5× after 8 hours a day and on the seventh consecutive day, 2× after 12 hours), Alaska and Nevada(after 8 hours a day, Nevada only for lower-wage employees) and Colorado (after 12 hours a day). Salaried exempt employees, most independent contractors and some agricultural and seasonal workers are excluded. Union contracts and employer policies can be more generous, never less.
