Why convert EPUB to MOBI

Amazon’s Send to Kindle accepts EPUB for newer devices, but Kindles from before 2012, some Kindle apps and USB sideloading still need MOBI or AZW3. Converting once makes the whole library usable.

The conversion uses Calibre’s engine on our server, the standard tool for e-book formats: it rebuilds the table of contents, embeds the cover, and produces AZW3 (KF8) for better formatting or classic MOBI for the oldest devices.

How it works

  1. Drop EPUB file onto the box above, click it to browse, or paste from the clipboard.
  2. Adjust the options if you need to — the defaults suit most cases.
  3. Press Convert. The file is uploaded securely, converted, and the result is offered for download.
  4. Download the MOBI — individually or all at once.

About the formats

EPUB · Electronic publication · .epub

The open e-book standard used by Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play Books and most readers — except older Kindles.

  • EPUB is reflowable: text adapts to screen size and font settings, unlike PDF.
  • EPUB 3 supports audio, video and fixed-layout pages for comics and children’s books.
  • Amazon’s Send to Kindle accepts EPUB since 2022, but older Kindles still want MOBI or AZW3.

MOBI · Mobipocket e-book · .mobi

The older Kindle format, discontinued by Amazon in 2022 but still the only option for pre-2012 Kindles and some readers.

  • MOBI has limited formatting compared with EPUB: no CSS floats, limited tables, no embedded fonts.
  • Amazon replaced MOBI with AZW3/KF8 and now KFX.
  • Converting EPUB to MOBI works well for novels; complex layouts lose fidelity.
