How the calculator works and what it’s for▾
How the tile count is calculated
The tool adds your chosen waste allowance to the area to be tiled and divides the result by the area of a single tile to get the number of tiles needed. It then converts the count into boxes as well.
For example, a 12 square metre floor with a 10 percent allowance means about 13 square metres of tiles, which is a certain number of pieces depending on the tile size.
What you enter and what you get
You enter the area to be tiled in square metres, choose the tile size, and give the waste allowance as a percentage.
You get the area including the waste allowance, the number of tiles needed, and the number of boxes, where a box covers about one square metre.
Who it is for
The calculator serves anyone renovating a bathroom or kitchen and both hobbyists and professionals planning to tile a floor or wall. It helps you size the purchase so you neither run out nor end up with too much left over.
Good to know
A 10 percent allowance is enough for a rectangular space, but for diagonal laying or a complex room you should allow around 15 percent. Buy all tiles from the same production batch, as shades can vary between batches.
The calculator assumes square tiles, so for other shapes the result is indicative.
