Why convert HTML to PDF

Browser “print to PDF” often loses backgrounds, breaks pages mid-element and ignores print stylesheets. A headless browser rendering with print media queries and a fixed viewport gives consistent, repeatable output.

Invoices, reports and email newsletters generated as HTML can be archived exactly as they looked, with clickable links and selectable text rather than a screenshot.

How it works

  1. Drop HTML file onto the box above, click it to browse, or paste from the clipboard.
  2. Adjust the options if you need to — the defaults suit most cases.
  3. Press Convert. The file is uploaded securely, converted, and the result is offered for download.
  4. Download the PDF.

About the formats

HTML · HyperText Markup Language · .html

The language of web pages: text with tags for headings, links, images and tables, rendered by a browser.

  • An HTML file often references external CSS and images; converting it to PDF works best when they are embedded or online.
  • Saved web pages may include scripts that behave differently offline.
  • Semantic HTML (headings, lists, tables) converts cleanly to Word and PDF; layout built from nested divs does not.

PDF · Portable Document Format · .pdf

The fixed-layout document standard: looks the same on every device and printer, which is why forms, invoices, contracts and reports are shared as PDF.

  • A PDF can contain vector text, embedded fonts, images, form fields, annotations and digital signatures.
  • Scanned PDFs are just pictures of pages; they need OCR before the text can be searched or copied.
  • PDF is an open ISO standard (ISO 32000) since 2008.
